In December, our team visited several brick kilns in Pakistan and witnessed firsthand the harsh reality faced by families living in bonded labor. Long working hours, unsafe living conditions, and generations of debt have trapped countless families in a system with little hope of escape.

We also met children working alongside their parents — many without access to education or the opportunity for a different future.

Pakistan is estimated to have between 18,000 and 20,000 brick kilns, employing more than four million workers. The Global Slavery Index estimates approximately 2.349 million people living in modern slavery across the country, while UNICEF reports nearly 3.3 million children engaged in child labor.

We believe that paying off a family’s debt alone is not enough. Without new opportunities, many eventually return to the same cycle of exploitation — that is why we are committed to a holistic strategy that addresses both immediate needs and long-term restoration.

“Our goal is not simply to help families leave bonded labor. Our goal is to help them build a future where they never have to return.”

A future they never have to return from.

Our goal is not simply to help families leave bonded labor — it’s to help them build a future where they never have to return. Our approach is built on four integrated pillars.

Freedom

Working alongside trusted local partners, we identify families living in bonded labor and support safe, responsible pathways to freedom while respecting local laws and regulations.

Dignified Work

Following their release, families receive vocational training and support to establish sustainable sources of income, helping them achieve financial independence and reduce the risk of returning to bonded labor.

Housing & Restoration

Families leave employer-provided housing connected to the brick kilns and receive transitional assistance, including temporary housing, essential household furnishings, and financial coaching as they begin rebuilding their lives.

Education & Discipleship

The project includes plans for a strategically located school providing children access to education while reducing child labor. Families are also connected with local churches for discipleship, pastoral care, and Christ-centered community.

Our prayer is to see families fully restored. Through this initiative, we hope to help:

  • Break the cycle of bonded labor for vulnerable families.
  • Provide children with access to education instead of child labor.
  • Equip parents with sustainable sources of income.
  • Strengthen local churches through discipleship and pastoral care.
  • Develop a model that can be replicated in other regions of Pakistan.
