Across Pakistan, thousands of families are trapped in brick kilns by debts they can never repay — a debt that binds husbands, wives, and even young children to the kiln, often for 12 hours a day or more.
Exploitation, mistreatment, and unsafe conditions are common. So is the lack of clean water, healthcare, housing, and food.
Perhaps hardest to witness are the children — kept out of school, working beside their parents, at risk of inheriting the same cycle that trapped the generation before them.
Pakistan has an estimated 18,000–20,000 brick kilns. The Global Slavery Index estimates roughly 2.349 million people live in modern slavery in the country; UNICEF reports around 3.3 million children in child labor.
As a religious minority already facing disadvantage, Christian families are disproportionately represented among those bonded to the kilns. These are not statistics to us. They are families we’ve sat with, listened to, and prayed with. And by God’s grace, we’ve already seen some of them walk free and begin again.
Paying off a family’s debt isn’t enough on its own.
Picture being released from the kiln — and waking up the next morning with no home, no food, and no job. Without support through that transition, families can fall back into debt, and back into the same kiln they just left.
That’s why Freedom & Hope goes beyond paying debts. We walk with each family through three connected stages toward real, lasting independence.
We help settle the debt that binds a family to the kiln, so they can leave safely and for good. Estimated cost: US$1,500 per family.

We provide three months of housing and food after release — covering rent, meals, and utilities — giving the family time to get on its feet without borrowing again just to survive. Estimated cost: US$750 per family (3 months).

We help the family build a sustainable way to earn a living — currently through a rickshaw, giving a family member the means to work independently. Estimated cost: US$1,250.

Freedom & Hope is built on partnership, not intervention from the outside. Every step is carried out together with trusted local leaders who already know the families, the kilns, and the communities involved.
| Identification | Local pastors and ministry leaders identify families living under debt bondage and assess each case individually. |
| Safe release | We support the settlement of the family’s debt through a safe, responsible process — never one that creates new dependency or risk. |
| Guided transition | For three months, we walk alongside the family as they rebuild — housing, food, and daily needs — while working toward independence. |
| Sustainable income | Before a case is considered complete, the family has a concrete, working source of income of their own. |
The goal at every stage is the same: not simply to move a family out of a brick kiln, but to give them a real, lasting reason never to go back.
Freedom & Hope is already changing lives — by God’s grace, we have seen families walk out of the brick kilns and begin again. Our goal is to grow this work steadily, family by family, without ever compromising the care and follow-through each one deserves.
For every family we walk with, success means:
Our goal is to walk with 10 families through this process over the next 12 months — extending it further as God provides.
